About us
Who we are
Breakfast deck
Having raised a family of two in Auckland and the Hibiscus Coast, Maureen and Simon have recently returned to the Far North where they are enjoying their new lifestyle. Simon is of Dalmatian and maori lineage and is fluent in Te Reo (maori language). He has an excellent knowledge of maori culture and local history. Maureen grew up in Russell (Bay of Islands) and is kept busy in the garden and her job as office administrator at the local primary school.

What we offer

Gunnypa's Kip and Kai (bed & breakfast) is located in the small community of Ngataki, half way between Kaitaia and Cape Reinga. Simon's father originally owned the property and Gunnypa was the name that his grandchildren fondly knew him by.

We are very close to the beautiful white sand beaches of Great Exhibition Bay on the east coast and near to the wild Ninety Mile Beach on the west.

The house is set in a large, beautiful garden where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the Far North's warm sub-tropical climate. We can accommodate four guests in the main house and larger groups can be accommodated nearby by prior arrangement. We serve a full cooked breakfast throughout your stay - either in our dining room, on one of the decks or in the garden.

During your stay, we can arrange a wide range of activities for you and Simon can introduce you to maori history, food and culture, arts and crafts with a visit to our local marae (community centre).

We particularly cater for walking groups interested in tramping our many local walkways and for people interested in artist workshops. We can arrange personalised walks, horse trekking, kayaking and fishing.

Gunnypa's
Although there are a number of restaurants nearby, we can provide an evening meal if required at NZ$25.00 per person and we like to offer a pre-dinner drink. We also have a barbeque which you are welcome to use and there is plenty of room in the fridge to chill your own wine and beverages. We are also able to provide picnic lunches.
